International Dance Day

Every year on April 29, the world celebrates International Dance Day, a tribute to the universal language of movement. This date marks the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre, the great French ballet master and visionary reformer known as the “father of modern ballet.”

For the Abay Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre, dance is the very heartbeat of our artistic mission. It is a powerful form of expression that transcends political, cultural, and ethnic boundaries, uniting people through the shared language of beauty and peace. From ancient social rituals to the sophisticated mastery of the modern stage, dance remains one of humanity’s most profound achievements.

Established in 1982 by the UNESCO International Dance Council (CID), this day serves as a global celebration of the diversity and strength of choreography in all its forms.
