Post-event release: Presentation of the album ‘Zher-Ana Tynysy’ at the Abai Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre
On April 9, the ARTE Gallery hosted the presentation of the album “Zher-Ana Tynysy”, a cultural and musical project presented by Zarina Altynbayeva, Honoured Figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
This evening became more than a musical presentation; it was a significant cultural event that brought together historical memory, national heritage, and contemporary musical thought. Audiences were able to experience anew the sound of the Kazakh steppe, its spiritual depth, and the many layers of its cultural code.
The evening’s concert programme was rich and multilayered:
— “Körkem qyz” (T. Zharmukhamet) — MAVRIDIS, folk instruments (Aigerim and Zhalgasbek), choir
— “Maira” (Kazakh folk song arranged by Hu Yanjang) — Laura
— “Aq Sholpan” (from the repertoire of Zhamal Omarova, arranged by A. Otetleu and I. Bashkatov) — MAVRIDIS, Zhalgasbek (tambourine), choir

— Uzbek piece Do’ppi Tikdim (M. Burkhanov, T. Tula) — MAVRIDIS, Zhalgasbek (darbuka), choir
— “Iñkär sezim” (T. Zharmukhamet, A. Mayemirov) — MAVRIDIS
— “Akhau, kerim” (Kazakh folk song arranged by I. Bashkatov) — with choir
The project “Zher-Ana Tynysy” offered listeners a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the national musical tradition, where each composition became a reflection of the link between eras and a dialogue between past and present.
The album includes ancient Kazakh folk songs reconstructed from archival materials, selected works of the national classical tradition, as well as compositions by contemporary composers. Together, they formed an integral artistic space uniting different historical periods of Kazakh musical culture.
Each performance that evening evoked a profound emotional response, underscoring the power of music as a bearer of memory, feeling, and spiritual meaning. It was a reminder that music is not only the art of sound, but also a language of inner experience and cultural identity.
“Zher-Ana Tynysy” is a project that preserves and reinterprets national heritage, bringing it to today’s listener in a new artistic sound.
We thank all the guests, as well as the participants and organisers of this important cultural event.
