When hundreds of voices unite as one — Yapurai is born: a grand choral spectacle where Kazakh musical tradition meets contemporary art, on March 6 at the Abay Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Gala Choral Performance
The choir of the Abay Opera and Ballet Theatre is the pride of our creative team. It forms the foundation of large-scale, spectacular productions that grace the opera repertoires of world-class theatres.
Our choir consists of first-class vocalists capable of performing works across a wide range of genres — from operatic classics to musicals and jazz.
Kazakh composers’ songs hold a special place in the theatre choir’s repertoire. These works have been successfully performed not only on Kazakhstan’s stages but also abroad, earning the admiration and heartfelt appreciation of international audiences. A major factor behind this success is the exceptional skill and artistry of the choir. Our goal is to present the theatre choir as an independent creative ensemble, revealing its new facets and possibilities through a modern lens.
Through an engaging, immersive show, the audience will be drawn into the stage action, with choral singing serving as a powerful symbol of unity, harmony, and respect for national culture. When voices merge into one — it becomes a striking image of national cohesion and pride.
The uniqueness of the «Yapuray» project lies in its aim to combine Kazakh musical traditions with modern technologies and stage design. For the first time in Kazakhstan, a program will be presented that includes masterpieces of national classics and folk songs adapted for choral performance — preserving musical heritage while giving it a fresh, contemporary sound. This project offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience familiar works in a renewed form, enriched by current trends in music and art.
Furthermore, the use of high-tech scenography combined with quotes from great thinkers such as Abay Kunanbayev, Shakarim Kudaiberdyuly, Al-Farabi, and Mahmud al-Kashgari will highlight the depth and beauty of each piece, creating a visually striking and emotionally powerful performance. This innovative combination of music and visual storytelling allows audiences to feel the harmony of past and future and to experience the unity of Kazakhstan’s cultural and historical traditions.
